The summer school holidays are upon us, and there is a lot to be excited about, particularly with your family break UK just around the corner! Suffolk and Norfolk have a lot to offer, and there is plenty of things to do to keep yourself, and your kids busy throughout your holiday!
Sandcastles on the Beach
A traditional summer day should be spent at the beach. Whether you want to paddle in the sea, build an enormous sandcastle, want to try out all the arcade games, do a round of crazy golf or tuck into fish and chips and ice cream, then one of the many splendid beaches in Suffolk or Norfolk is the place to go! The long sandy beaches in Suffolk and Norfolk are perfect for families, and there are plenty of amenities nearby. Several beaches also have water sports available to try out, if you want to have an active beach day, opposed to a day lounging on the sand!
Country Fairs
Many of Suffolk’s towns and villages will be holding county fairs throughout the summer. Along with rides and entertainment for the children, there will be fairs brimming with stalls weighed down with wonderful crafts and flowers, animal displays, vintage and classic car shows and delicious food to dig into. When on your holiday to Suffolk or Norfolk, check what events and country fairs are happening during that time.
Summer Barbecues
Now is the time of year to dig out the grill, fire it up, invite friends over and have a barbecue! Get the sausages and burgers sizzling, have a few beers and enjoy a sunny afternoon cooking up some great grub! Why not also mix it up, and try some new recipes to add to your grill? Outdoor Adventures
The warm sunny – and hopefully dry – weather during the summer holiday provides lots of opportunities to have an outdoor adventure. Head into the countryside with walking boots and a picnic to discover the best of Suffolk and Norfolk’s landscapes. Bring along some binoculars in case you spot some wildlife too. Many of the nature reserves located throughout the counties host child-friendly events in the holidays where you can learn about the wildlife, countryside and even some wilderness survival skills!
Explore the History
It may be the school holidays, but keep your kids learning new things every day with a day out to one of Suffolk or Norfolk’s historical sites. There are castles, mills, medieval villages like Sutton Hoo and several museums such as the Aviation Museum, and Lowestoft Maritime Museum. Throughout the holidays, many of these places host hand-on activities for children that bring the history to life, and there are re-enactments and much more to enjoy.
